Jim Black, CFP®, MBA
President & CEO
A founding partner, Jim’s responsibilities include all aspects of financial and tax strategy planning. Jim has over 28 years of experience in the financial planning industry and now devotes his efforts to the distribution planning arena. His main focus is helping clients retire on their own terms. For Absolute Return Solutions, Inc., this means focusing on desired income and estate goals; striving to better assure lifetime income; and preserving assets.
In order to help others better understand the ins and outs of the financial aspect of retirement, Jim published the book Happily Ever After – Retirement doesn’t have to be just a fairytale. He has also appeared on the television program About the Money on Seattle's PBS station KCTS as well as several other local and national TV stations, including NBC, CBS, ABS, King5, and Fox.
Jim grew up on a farm outside of McMinnville, OR. It was his job to milk the cows every morning at 5 am & 5 pm, giving him the inspiration to go to college. After graduating from Brigham Young University with a degree in international finance, Jim went on to first earn his MBA from Willamette University and then earn the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation. He also served as an officer in the military. It was during his service that he ran his first and last marathon. Jim and his wife, Ann, live in Fall City and have six children. Jim enjoys all the activities that go with raising a family, especially scouting, as he was a scout master for many years.
